Your Big Three… — The Charleston Astrologer

Whether you’re an astrology newbie or a seasoned enthusiast, you MUST know your big three (a.k.a. primal triad, a.k.a. your sun, moon, and rising) if you’re going to know anything about yourself and how the stars affect you. These placements are so important because they represent the three main pillars of your personality.

First, let’s talk about the sun sign. This represents your ego and how you shine (like the sun does) during the daytime. Most people are familiar with this part of their chart and often refer to themselves as a “Cancer” or a “Capricorn”, but really this is an oversimplification of the facts. You have an ENTIRE chart of placements that contribute to your unique personality and life experience, and the sun is only one piece of the puzzle!

Next, is your moon sign. This placement represents your emotional body and how you need to be nurtured. It also gives you insight into how you react when you are triggered (watch out for those Aries moons!) But most importantly, knowing this aspect of your chart is incredibly helpful for personal healing, as it helps you identify what it is that you truly NEED in order to feel good.

And last, but certainly not least, is your rising sign (also known as your ascendant). Now this part of the puzzle is probably the most special, and the most complicated to understand, as it is not a planetary placement, but refers to which zodiac sign was on the eastern horizon the moment that you were born.

In fact, your rising sign represents a couple of different things… First it tells you what people’s first impression of you is. It can also tell you things about your physical appearance and/or your body. But the most interesting thing about it (in my humble opinion) is that it tells you what your soul’s purpose is in this lifetime! It tells you WHY your soul chose to come into this particular life and what you are supposed to be doing with it.

So what are you waiting for?! Find out your “big three” and give yourself permission to be who YOU truly are! That’s what astrology is all about, after all. Knowing your sun, moon, and rising signs (and the rest of your chart) is the key to knowing exactly who you are, and nothing could be more empowering than that!
